Rector's note from Kayts - SAC (by email)

November 24, 2004

Dear Students in Canada,

The College activities are going smoothly. The demise of two eminent persons in our education circle has caused shock waves in our College society. One is the untimely death of our Island Zonal Education Director late Mr.Venugobala Vanithasan in a road accident and the other was our former Principal late Mr.K.Ratnasingam.

Late Mr.K.Ratnasingam was the principal of our College at a crucial time of resettlement and reconstruction from 1995 to 2000. During his tenure he took all the trouble to bring back the displaced school from Ushan, Mirusuvil to its own soil in Kayts in 1996. Later he put his heart and sole to reconstruct the college to its original state with all its architectural values with the aid from the GTZ and the co-operation of the College community in 1998/99. It was not an easy task then because the A-9 was kept closed and the skill workmen were hardly available in the hometown.

In addition to the infrastructure development, he kept the college going with the available resources. In year 2000 following the persuasions of the educational community, he took up the responsibility of the Kayts Divisional Education office and served there until he retired in May 2004.

Following his demise on the 03.11.2004, his remain was brought to the College on the funeral day to enable the College community to pay its last respect to the leader who took immense trouble to rebuild the College. A tribute meeting was held at the College main hall. The Vice principal, Mr.P.W.Navarajah, presided the meeting since I was away from the college on a weeklong educational tour to the south with 40 advanced Level students. Following the tribute meeting the body was taken to Karampon for the cremation.

Now we are now at the tail end of the year and the students are preparing for the term end examination. We are closing on the 10th December 2004 and celebrating the Oli Vila on the same day.

The "Christ Hall" Hostel construction work is completed for the time being and 60 students and myself are staying there. There is some more work to be carried out but we are managing with available resources due to financial constrains. Though we have shifted to this new building one-month back, we are ceremonially opened it on Sunday the 21st November and celebrated our Patron’s Day - Christ the King.

After coming here the hostellers are enjoying the stay at the hostel and the have electricity and other study hall facilities. It will be very useful for the students as well as the College in the future.

Yours in Christ,

Fr.Jesuthas
